After getting done with how many calories should I eat to lose weight, next comes how many calories should I eat to gain weight.
Do you know that every person has different characteristics and body types?
Some are active, others aren’t – some are aged, others are young, etc.
That makes it easier to answer how many calories one should eat in order to gain weight, no?
If you still haven’t got the idea what we’re talking about, here’s the simple-put:
“If you plan to gain weight with calorie consumption, you need to take care of two things: how much weight do you want to gain and what are your characteristics (we’ll discuss this part later).”
You see, there’s no exact answer for how many calories you should be eating to gain weight. It’s because every person plans for a different number of weight to put on and they vary in body types and characteristics.
That said, let’s get started with creating ourselves a number of calories we can start with, based on our characteristics and how much weight we do want to gain, and then tweak that number accordingly to feel satisfied and healthy.
To get yourself your calorie consumption number, we created this little tool of ours that gets your characteristics like age, height, weight, and activity levels and provides you with calories for weight gain.
And yes, it’s FREE.
However, as mentioned earlier, this tool will only provide you with the number that’ll be your starting point; you’ll need to adjust the number yourself (increase or decrease it) if in case you feel unhealthier.
What are Calories:
Calories, if you have no clue of, are units that measure the amount of energy in foods and beverages.
Your body burns energy as long as it works.
If you provide your body with more energy than it is capable to burn, you’ll end up gaining weight.
In the same way, if you provide your body with less energy than it can burn, you’ll end up losing weight.
Since we’re aiming to work for weight gain, our focus towards providing our bodies with more energy makes sense.
How Many Calories Should I Eat to Gain Weight in General?
In general, if you weigh 55 kg, height is 180 cm, are a male, have an age of 21, and have no to zero activity, you’ll need to be eating 2268 calories per day to gain weight by 20%, 2646 calories per day to gain weight by 40%, and 3024 calories per day to gain weight by 60%.
However, if you are female but with all other characteristics same – like age, height, weight, and activity levels – you’ll need 2028 calories per day to gain weight by 20%, 2367 calories per day to gain weight by 40%, and 2705 calories per day to gain weight by 60%.
These are required calories for only when you have the characteristics mentioned above. For your own calorie consumption number, we suggest you use our free tools to get that number.

Now that you’re searching for calories to gain weight, we thought it’d be better to provide you with the list of ways that work when trying to gain weight.
Following are the ways you can effectively gain weight if you plan to:
1 – Eat more:
This is a no-brainer – since we want to put on more weight, we need to provide our body with more calories.
One way to do this is to eat more.
2 – Eat more often:
Eating many times throughout the day makes you gain more weight than that of only eating a few times.
3 – Use bigger plates:
Using bigger plates also turns out to be the reason for weight gain.
The idea here is when you have a bigger plate, even more food looks like a very small meal in that plate.
4 – Don’t drink water before eating:
If you drink water before your meals, you’ll end up not eating much.
You need your stomach to be empty for more food.
5 – Drink more milk:
In case you don’t know, milk has been used as a healthy product since decades to help you put on weight and get healthier.
Drinking more milk throughout the day can help you gain weight, and it is proved.
